Optimizing your family’s health

  • Adopt a whole foods vegan diet. Include lots of raw foods. Eat as local and as organic as possible. Maintain a vegetable/herb garden. Grow some fruit trees too if you can.
  • Be gentle & loving with each other. No hitting, coercion etc.
  • Have a diverse group of friends.
  • Store leftovers in wooden or glass containers as much as possible.

  • Wear your hair naturally. Use simple natural products on it ie. homemade shampoo, conditioner, gel if possible. Moisturize your hair, scalp & skin with shea butter and/or olive/coconut/flax oil.

  • Challenge all forms of oppression. Minimize consumption.
  • Adorn yourself with natural fabrics. Cultural attire/jewelry (traditional & contemporary) is great. Sistahs, wear skirts/dresses often.
  • Drink 6-8 8 oz. glasses of water daily.

  • Be optimistic. Think positively.
  • Consult the oracle (from one of our traditions) on an as needed basis.

  • Try to follow the basic principles of Pher Shefat/Feng Shui/Vasthu Sastra.
  • Exercise regularly. Sweat, sweat, sweat.
  • Staycation/vacation annually together.
  • Like to wear high heels? Keep it to a minimum.  They do damage in the long run.
  • Use natural household/body supplies. Make your own if possible. If you purchase them stick to 100% natural brands for laundry, dishes, teeth, skin, furniture, floors etc.
  • Detox/fast around the equinoxes and solstices. These are great times to clean your home and vehicles too.
  • Maintain your own family traditions.
  • Go outside.
  • Lay low on sweets & desserts.

  • Engage in healing art forms regularly ie. tai chi, yoga, meditation, qigong etc.
  • Prepare your own food as much as possible. Flavour with herbs & spices.
  • Pray & meditate. Have a strong spiritual foundation.
  • Live light.
  • Minimize ejaculation & sex at night. Have a vibrant sex life. Be kinky & make love often. Think: Tantra, Karma Sutra. Do not have sex when you’re angry, sad, depressed etc.
  • Drink herbal teas/tonics regularly. Don’t forget your bitters.
  • Dance. Sing. Tune into positive music.
  • Refrain from (or at least minimize) smoking and drinking alcohol.
  • Get sufficient rest each night. Retire by 10pm if you can. Wake up early.
  • Have major goals. Assist one another in achieving them.
  • Eat together as often as possible. Consume lots of our cultural foods/dishes.
  • Be silly. Laugh lots.
  • When ill use natural homemade remedies. For extra assistance use herbalists, homeopaths, naturopathic doctors, midwives & holistic nutritionists.
  • Be sensual/romantic. Couple time is necessary.
  • When awakening in the morning don’t use an alarm.  Trust your body to rise when it’s ready.
  • Minimize consumption of canned & frozen foods.
  • Live green. Be frugal. Slow down.
  • Turn off the tv often. Reconsider whether you even need cable. Cover your tv (with a sheet) when it’s not in use.
  • Know your neighbours.
  • Don’t vaccinate. Consider homeopathy instead.
  • Involve yourselves in community service initiatives regularly.
  • Support black-owned and eco-friendly businesses.
  • Adults, do a juice/water fast one day a week.
  • Express yourself. Embrace each other’s unique style, personality, tastes, gifts.
  • Use counsellors when needed.
  • Treat yourselves on occasion.
  • Be affectionate. Kiss, hug, cry, say “I love you.”
  • Travel.
  • Fresh is best. Lay low on processed food.
  • Plan natural pregnancies & births. Get a doula & midwife.
  • Have regular potlucks with friends & family. Show films on occasion.
  • Apologize when you’re wrong.
  • Skip circumcision for your baby boys. If your sons want to get circumcised let them make the decision for themselves as they get older.
  • Lay low on cold foods & drinks.
  • Be honest.
  • Have a weekly family night.
  • Stay away from microwaves.
  • De-clutter/clear your home regularly. Smudge with sage, frankincense, myrrh.
  • Use www.freecycle.org and thrift stores. Barter too.
  • Get regular quiet time.
  • Try not to reheat food.
  • Sistahs, go bra-less whenever you can.
  • Take a good multivitamin/mineral daily. Liquid ones are preferable.
  • Visit a see-er when need be.
  • Trust your intuition.
  • Co-sleep with your babies. Carry them too.
  • Decorate your home in a manner that reflects the best of our culture.
  • Try to eat your meals around the same time every day. Make your lunch your biggest meal. Avoid eating at night.
  • Wear EMF protection jewelry. ie. crystals, pendants, bracelets. Place a few EMF protection devices in your home particularly near phones, computers, tvs & so on.
  • Set up a family altar. Use it regularly.
  • Go barefoot on a regular.
  • Be very mindful of the media. Keep it at a minimum. Use a very critical eye when tuning in. Teach your children to do the same.
  • Keep things clean. Scrub your walls/floors with peppermint oil.
  • Breastfeed your babies until they wean.
  • Support local farmers/farmer’s markets.
  • Have a vision/plan for your family. Stick to it. If you have a mission statement frame it and place it on a wall in your home.
  • Surround yourselves with like minds. Build community.
  • Get your whole food supplements in regularly ie. unsulphured blackstrap molasses, kelp, wheat germ, nutritional & brewer’s yeast, raw honey, moringa, spirulina, chlorella, bee pollen, psyllium, chlorophyll, bentonite or green clay etc.
